This European Standard was approved by CEN on 13 July 2002.

La presente Norme europeenne a ete adoptee par Ie CEN Ie 13 juillet 2002.
Les membres du CEN sont tenus de se soumettre au Reglement Interieur du CEN/CENELEC, qui definit les conditions dans lesquelles doit etre attribue, sans modification, Ie statut de norme nationale a la Norme europeenne. Les listes mises a jour et les references bibliographiques relatives a ces normes nationales peuvent etre obtenues aupres du Centre de Gestion ou aupres des membres du CEN.
La presente Norme europeenne existe en trois versions officielles (allemand, anglais, franpais). Une version dans une autre langue faite par traduction sous la responsabilite d'un membre du CEN dans sa langue nationale et notifiee au Centre de Gestion, a Ie meme statut que les versions officielles.

Diese Europaische Norm wurde vom CEN am 13.Juli 2002 angenommen.
Die CEN-Mitglieder sind gehalten, die CEN/CENELEC-Geschaftsordnung zu erfOllen, in der die Bedingungen festgelegt sind, unter denen dieser Europaischen Norm ohne jede Anderung der Status einer nationalen Norm zu geben ist. Auf dem letzen Stand befindliche Listen dieser nationalen Normen mit ihren bibliographischen Angaben sind beim Management-Zentrum Oder bei jedem CEN-Mitglied auf Anfrage erhaltlich.

This document (EN 1330-10:2003) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 138 'Non-destructive testing", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2003, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2003.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard : Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece. Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Dieses Dokument (EN 1330-10:2003) wurde vom Technischen Komitee CEN/TC138 "Zerstorungsfreie PrOfung" erarbeitet, dessen Sekretariat von AFNOR gehalten wird.

Introduction
To date, it is anticipated that EN 1330 will comprise at least 10 parts prepared separately by groups of experts, each group consisting of experts in a given NDT method (for Parts 3 to 10 of this standard).
A comparative examination of these parts has shown the existence of common terms that are often defined differently. These terms have been taken from Parts 3 to 10 of this standard and then split into two categories:
- general terms corresponding to other fields such as physics, electricity, metrology... and already defined in international documents. These terms are the subject of Part 1 of this standard;
- common terms specific to NDT. These terms, the definitions of which have been harmonized in an Ad Hoc group, are the subject of Part 2 of this standard.
In view of the nature of the approach taken, the list of terms in Parts 1 and 2 of this standard are in no way exhaustive.
Einleitung
Es ist zur Zeit vorgesehen, dass EN1330 mindestens aus 10 Teilen besteht, die getrennt von Expertengruppen erarbeitet werden, wobei jede Expertengruppe fur ein bestimmtes ZfP- Verfahren zustandig ist (bei den Teilen 3 bis 10).
Eine Uberpriifung dieser Teile hat gezeigt, dass gemeinsame Begriffe haufig unterschiedlich definiert werden. Diese Begriffe wurden aus den Teilen 3 bis 10 herausgenommen und in zwei Kategorien aufgeteilt:
- allgemeine Begriffe, die im Zusammenhang mit anderen Bereich wie Physik, Elektrizitat, Metrologie...stehen und schon in internationalen Dokumenten definiert sind. Diese Begriffe werden in Teil 1 zusammengefasst;
- gemeinsame Begriffe der ZfP. Diese Begriffe, deren Definitionen in einer Ad-hoc-Gruppe harmonisiert wurden, werden in Teil 2 zusammengefasst.
Unter Berucksichtigung dieser Vorgehensweise ist anzumerken, dass die Liste der Begriffe in Teil 1 und Teil 2 keineswegs vollstandig ist.
